The British Standards Institution (BSI) is the national standards body of the United Kingdom and one of world’s largest certification bodies. The BSI produces technical standards for a wide range of products and services, and also supplies certification and standards-related services to businesses.

Security Token Standard

In partnership with the British Standards Institution, QRC is working towards the publication of the first ever token offering standard - Technical Standards for Crypto-asset Issuing and Trading PAS 11968: Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs).

This will standardize crypto asset classes for Security Tokens and help increase trade velocity and liquidity.

Objectives:

  • To bring together academics, technologists, policymakers, and the business community to explore blockchain’s impact on law, government and society.

  • To create a community of students and academicians focused on blockchain related initiatives.

  • To collaborate with governments, private entities, NGOs, and educational institutions on the use and adoption of blockchain technologies.

  • To educate and provide multidisciplinary training to students about blockchain technology.

  • To conduct outreach programs that promote blockchain technology and its use cases.

  • To enhance demand driven research on the adoption of blockchain technology.

Through this collaboration, we have a series of initiatives:

Educational Programs

The programs consist of:

  1. 7-day blockchain technology course for students and professionals

  2. Hackathon at the end of the course

RegTech Cube

To establish the Regtech cube as a “Global RegTech Research Lab” on campus

Research

To support research on practical issues that will translate into a proof-of-concept product or service that can potentially solve the regulatory compliance problems of blockchain.

Asia Blockchain Academic Alliance

An association among Asian universities, particularly in Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan and China on Blockchain related educational initiatives.

 

QRC X UM Project: Malaysian Blockchain Regulatory Report

A year of research has been conducted by the UM Faculty of Law and QRC. An official report of this research was released on July 5th, 2018.

The research…

  • provides an introduction to the technical and regulatory background of blockchain technology;

  • addresses the prospects and challenges of blockchain in Malaysia;

  • provides an overview of the regulatory approach on blockchain in various jurisdictions;’

  • discusses the legal issues relating to blockchain as it pertains to ICOs, financial services, data privacy and consumer protections; and

  • provides recommendation by the researchers to private and public stakeholders
