Objectives:

  • Bring together academics, technologists, policymakers and private sector members to explore blockchain impact on law, government and society

  • Create a community group of students and academicians focused on blockchain related initiatives

  • Collaborate with government, private entities, NGOs and educational institutions on the use and adoption of blockchain technologies

  • Educate and provide multidisciplinary training to students about blockchain technology

  • Conduct outreach programs to promote public awareness about blockchain technology and its use cases

  • Enhance demand driven research on the adoption of blockchain technology

Through this collaboration, we have a series of initiatives:

Educational Programs

The programs consist of:

  1. 7-days blockchain technology course to students and professionals

  2. Hackathon at the end of the course

RegTech Cube

To establish the Regtech cube as “Global RegTech Research Lab” on campus

Research

To support researchers to undertake research on practical issues that will translate research findings to a proof-of-concept product or service that potentially solve the regulatory compliance problems in blockchain.

Asia Blockchain Academic Alliance

An association among Asian universities particular in Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan and China on Blockchain related educational initiatives.

 

QRC X UM Project: Malaysian Blockchain Regulatory Report

A year-long research has been conducted between UM, Faculty of Law Department and QRC with the result of official report launched on 5 July,2018. The research:

  • provides an introduction to the technical and regulatory background of the blockchain technology;

  • addresses the prospects and challenges of blockchain in Malaysia;

  • provides an overview of the regulatory approach on blockchain in various jurisdictions;’

  • discusses the legal issues related to blockchain in ICOs, money services businesses, data privacy and consumer protection; and

  • provides recommendation by the researchers to private and public stakeholders
